Search movies by year, genre, IMDB rating and number of votes.
Search by popularity and release time (newest movies).
Once we decide we want to watch a movie, I open IMDB and search movies both my wife and I will like. After spending about thirty minutes every time trying to find something it’s either a movie my wife prefers (romance or drama), or none. If you’re not in the same boat as me, you may find Suggest Movie app very useful.
As the name suggests, Suggest Movie – Movie Finder lets you find movies suitable just for you.
Upon starting, you get a bunch of filters to choose from, such as:
Type (Documentary, Movie, TV Series), Year, Genre, (IMDB) Rating, Language and Minimum votes on IMDB.
Upon entering what you want, you can’t miss the Suggest Movie button. It’s huge and I like it! Then you get a nice set of results, sorted by … I don’t really know what.
Other than that, the sorting itself is quite clean and shows me most of the things I’d like to know. I’d prefer it to be Google-ish white instead of grey with a dark theme option.
The listing itself looks quite informing. But it has a huge problem, which occurs in many places across this app. The alignment is awful. Actually, seems like there is no alignment at all. Looks like chunks of texts just thrown around without any sense. Kinda.
Notice the icons in the bottom left. Not sure why the developer added them, but I’ve never seen them in any app before. Totally out of place icons. All the data is taken from IMDB, which includes plot as well. The trailer at the bottom is very welcome.
The overflow menu provides links to the movie on IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, Google, YouTube and Netflix.
That’d be the main functionality of this app. But if you don’t know what to look for, you can see new and trending movies, movies by charts and much more in the drawer.
The list is taken from, you know already. Internet Movie Database. Actually the app feels just like a ‘nice’ IMDB browser.
The charts are IMDB’s too. Nothing too impressive here.
Now I found a sketchy thing I don’t like about this app. Sadly many apps do these to get better overall rating. After certain time period of using the app it’ll ask you inside the app to rate it.
If you rate it with less than four stars, you will get a popup message saying “Thank you! Please contact us if you have any problem.”
On the other hand, if you rate it with five stars, it’ll redirect you to their Google Play store ratings assuming you will give them five star there.
There you have it. Solid app without ads, with tons of UI issues currently. If you want to quickly find a movie you’ll watch this night, the app will serve its purpose.
